Professional teeth whitening involves the application of hydrogen or carbamide peroxide gel to the tooth surfaces. The bleaching agent breaks down the stain, delivering whiter teeth and a brighter smile.
Teeth whitening is best suited for yellowish stains, while gray or brown stains resulting from trauma or medications may not bleach as well.
Whitening will not lift stains off fillings, veneers, crowns, or dentures.
Whitening is recommended before cosmetic procedures for optimal results.

Please note, while most patients are candidates for whitening, there are a few situations when whitening may not be possible. The doctor will evaluate your teeth before your whitening begins.
Some discolorations on the teeth occur during development and cannot be remedied with whitening including but not limited to fluorosis, tetracycline staining, mottling, and hypo/hypercalcification staining. These teeth may even appear more spotted after treatment.
