Crowns & Bridges
Broken or Missing teeth?
A crown or bridge may be the solution for you!
A crown (or “cap”) is a dental restoration that covers the exposed surface of a tooth to strengthen it, replace missing tooth structure, or improve its appearance.
A bridge is a dental restoration to replace one or more missing teeth. It includes an artificial ceramic tooth or teeth which are fused to crowns on either side to provide support.
What you need to know:
Crowns and bridges allow us to protect your natural teeth if they have sustained damage, cracks, deep decay, or if a root canal was completed.
Your first treatment appointment is usually 90-120 minutes. We scan your natrual teeth, prep the teeth, and make a temporary crown which you will wear until your permanent crown returns from the lab.
Crowns are make of various ceramic materials, selected by Dr. Williams on a case by case basis. You will have the opportunity to choose the shade of your crowns with Dr. Williams and her team!
A prescription-grade occlusal guard will be recommended will all crown, bridge, and implant procedures.
How long do crowns and bridges last?
Sometimes crowns and bridges can become loose or fall out from the damage caused by chewing hard foods, ice, or other hard objects. Dental disease that causes tooth or bone loss is another reason crowns or bridges may loosen over time.
By practicing good oral hygiene, however, crowns and bridges can last a lifetime.
Brush at least twice a day, floss or clean between your teeth with interdental brushes or water flossers at least once a day, and consider using other helpful products like antimicrobial mouth rinses and tongue scrapers. Be sure to see your dental professional for regular cleanings – not only to keep your teeth pearly white and bacteria-free but also to check the health of your crown or your bridge.
